Suicide attempt is thwarted by doctors
A 32-year-old man attempted to kill himself by drinking pesticide on Tuesday in Kampong Chhnang’s Teuk Phos district. According to his mother, the victim was struggling to coexist with his brand new wife, and had engaged in an argument with her that day. A few hours after, when the wife went to tend to the fields, the victim decided to swallow pesticide and began convulsing not long after. He was sent to hospital for treatment, and doctors managed to save him.

Man denies killing friend in boozy fight
Police in Battambang’s Kras Kralor district on Tuesday arrested a man accused of killing his friend while they were getting drunk together the night before. Police said the suspect, 37, was drinking with his 48-year-old friend when the suspect lost control and attacked the victim twice in the head with an unknown weapon. The suspect denied killing his friend, but police sent him to court because “enough witnesses” had come forward.

Student allegedly steals and crashes car
Police arrested a student in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district on Wednesday after he allegedly stole a car belonging to a government official. The official reported the vehicle missing on Tuesday at about 2am, and while he was filing the report overheard a bunch of cops chatting about a traffic accident involving a car matching his car’s description. The police detained the student involved in the accident and sent him to court for questioning.

Ministry official queried over stolen property
Daun Penh district police on Tuesday arrested a policeman working for the Defence Ministry and a 23-year-old university student after they were seen driving a stolen motorbike. The bike was reported missing in November in Kampong Cham by an internet café clerk, who said three men robbed him at gunpoint while he was on the way to a funeral. He asked for intervention when, by chance, he saw the bike parked near the riverside in Phnom Penh. The two suspects claimed they paid US$1,350 for the flashy new ICON bike, and said they knew nothing of the robbery.

Bike comes off worst in collision with bus
A motorbike taxi driver and two garment workers were killed instantly in a traffic accident in Preah Sihanouk’s Prey Nub district. The driver was speeding in an effort to overtake a slow truck, but had a head-on collision with a bus coming in the opposite direction. Both the bus and the bike were taken into police custody.
